Most mailboxes mount on a wall or a post, but at Janzer we realize that many homes are gated and that these homeowners prefer to collect their mail from within their fence to avoid having to always open their gate in order to collect their mail deliveries. So we designed a unique mailbox to do just that. Our Thru-Fence Mailbox has a delivery slot on the one side and a lockable collection door on the other side. While this unique mailbox is most often installed in wrought iron gates, it can be installed in any type of fence or gate.
Lasting Quality:
Constructed from aluminum this mailbox will never rust and with its finely textured powder coated finish, it is designed to resist and hide scratches and scuffs. And because it is made of aluminum, this allows the installer to drill holes where ever necessary in order to fasten it to your particular fence style and without having to worry about any rust forming. Since each gate/fence installation is unique, hardware for mounting is not included and must be supplied by your installer and we recommend using all tamper proof stainless steel hardware.
Accepts Large Sized Envelopes:
The delivery slot is 11" wide, so this lockable mailbox easily accepts 8-½" x 11" business sized envelopes and magazines, as well as even larger and thicker documents. Plus the mail storage area within this mailbox is large enough to secure several days worth of mail.
Mail Signal:
While this mailbox was designed to receive and secure incoming mail and can not be used for mailing out-going mail, it does feature a signal flag that is built into the top of the mailbox. So depending on your circumstances and your installation, if accessible by your mail carrier they will put your flag down when they deliver your mail, to let you know that your mail has been delivered. Though if you decide not to utilize the mail flag option, then you can simply leave it in the down position and it will be left recessed within the top of the mailbox and kept out of sight.

To Lock or Not to Lock?
With this mailbox you have the option of keeping the collection door locked or leaving it unlocked. This is entirely up to you and depends on whether you think it is necessary to secure the door on the property side of your fence. Many homeowners leave the collection door unlocked unless they are traveling for a few days, in which case they then lock the door until they return home.
There are two basic ways to install this mailbox in or on a fence:
- Fasten it to the back side of the fence - Then simply cut a rectangular opening in the fence that is slightly larger than the delivery slot itself. A 12" wide x 3" high opening will most likely be sufficient depending on your type of fence.
- Fasten it half-way into the fence - With this mounting style you would cut-out a rectangular opening in the fence to fit the entire mailbox.
Note: We do not recommend cutting anything until you have the product in your hands, so that you can be sure to make the opening the proper size.
